Engine Rebuild in Brisbane

An engine rebuild strips your engine back, replaces worn components and puts it together right — restoring power, reliability and life. Memmotts Automotive has been rebuilding engines in Brisbane since 1956, a family-owned workshop now run by second-generation owner Ray Memmott. We work on all makes and models with a European specialty, petrol or diesel, four cylinders or eight, from our two northside workshops at Windsor and Grange.

Service detailWhat’s included in an engine rebuild

Every engine rebuild at Memmotts is scoped to your vehicle and your budget. We strip the engine down, assess every component and rebuild it to a standard that gets you reliably back on the road. Depending on what your engine needs, a rebuild can include:

  • Stripping and rebuilding complete engines — petrol or diesel, four cylinders or eight, big or small
  • Cylinder head repair and reconditioning
  • Engine reconditioning to restore worn or failing engines
  • Engine swaps where a rebuild isn’t the best option
  • Engine modification work
  • High-quality OEM or aftermarket components to ensure the longevity of your engine

We have hands-on experience across a wide range of makes, including Volkswagen, Land Rover, BMW, Kia, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Suzuki and Subaru. Whatever you drive, we’ll give you honest advice on whether your engine is best rebuilt, reconditioned or swapped — and quote it at a competitive, economical price. Don’t waste your money on a brand-new engine before you talk to us.

What to watch forSigns you may need an engine rebuild

Engines rarely fail without warning. It’s worth booking a look if you notice knocking or tapping noises from the engine, blue or excessive exhaust smoke, a sudden drop in power or fuel economy, oil in the coolant (or coolant in the oil), overheating, or a persistent oil leak. High-kilometre engines that burn oil or have lost compression are also strong candidates.

The sooner we assess it, the more options you have — a timely rebuild or recondition is often far cheaper than a replacement engine. Bring it into Windsor or Grange and we’ll tell you honestly what your engine needs.

FAQsEngine rebuild FAQs

What’s the difference between an engine rebuild and a recondition?

They overlap heavily. A rebuild means stripping the engine down and reassembling it with new or restored components; reconditioning focuses on bringing worn parts and surfaces back to spec. At Memmotts we assess your engine and recommend whichever approach gets you the best result for the money — including an engine swap if that’s genuinely the smarter option.

What makes and engine types can you rebuild?

All makes and models, petrol or diesel, four cylinders or eight, big or small. We have a European specialty and hands-on experience across Volkswagen, Land Rover, BMW, Kia, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Suzuki, Subaru and many more.

Is a rebuild cheaper than a brand-new engine?

In many cases, yes. We price rebuilds competitively and economically, and we’ll give you an honest comparison of your options. Don’t spend money on a brand-new engine before you talk to us — a rebuild or recondition is often the more sensible choice.

Do you use genuine parts?

We source high-quality OEM or aftermarket components to ensure the longevity of your engine. We’ll talk you through the parts we recommend for your vehicle and why.

Where are you located and how do I book?
