Car Diagnostics in Brisbane
Something doesn’t sound right, or the engine light has come on and you have no idea why? Car diagnostics is how we find out. At Memmotts Automotive we plug into your vehicle’s on-board systems, read the fault codes and pinpoint exactly what’s wrong — then explain it in terms you can understand. We’ve been a family-owned Brisbane mechanic since 1956, and we diagnose all makes and models, with a European specialty, at our two northside workshops in Windsor and Grange.
Service detailWhat’s included in a car diagnostic
Modern vehicles monitor themselves constantly, and when something goes out of range they store a fault code and often trigger a warning light. A proper diagnostic reads those codes, interprets them in context and traces the symptom back to the real cause — not just the light on the dash. Our car diagnostics in Brisbane cover:
- Reading and interpreting engine management and warning-light fault codes
- Scanning the ECU and connected control modules for stored and live faults
- Investigating check-engine, ABS, airbag, traction and other dashboard warnings
- Diagnosing rough running, misfires, stalling, poor economy and loss of power
- Tracing electrical, sensor and wiring faults
- A clear, plain-English explanation of the problem and the options to fix it
Because we work on all makes and models — with particular experience across European marques including Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar, Land Rover, Peugeot, Renault and Citroën — we know that the same warning light can mean very different things on different vehicles. We take the time to confirm the true cause before recommending any repair, so you’re not paying to replace parts that were never faulty.
Why usWhy choose Memmotts for car diagnostics
Memmotts Automotive has been looking after Brisbane drivers since 1956. Founded by Robert Memmott and now run by second-generation owner Ray Memmott, we’ve built our reputation on honest advice and doing the job properly. When it comes to diagnostics that matters: we tell you what’s actually wrong and what genuinely needs fixing, rather than guessing or over-servicing. Our European specialty means we’re comfortable with the more complex electronics found in prestige and Continental vehicles, and we handle all makes and models day in, day out. With two convenient northside workshops in Windsor and Grange, and as an RACQ Approved Inspection Station, you can trust the vehicle you drive away in has been diagnosed by people who know it.
What to watch forSigns you need car diagnostics
It’s worth booking a diagnostic whenever your car isn’t behaving the way it should. Common signs include:
- The check-engine or any warning light stays on or keeps flashing
- The engine is running rough, hesitating, misfiring or stalling
- Noticeably worse fuel economy or a loss of power
- Unusual noises, smells or the car going into “limp mode”
- Something just “doesn’t sound right” and you want peace of mind
Ignoring a warning light can turn a small fix into an expensive one, so if any of these sound familiar, it’s better to get it checked early.

FAQsCar diagnostics FAQs
What is a car diagnostic?
A car diagnostic is a check where we connect to your vehicle’s on-board computer to read the fault codes it has stored. Those codes point us toward the system that’s playing up, and from there we investigate to confirm the real cause — then explain it to you in plain English along with your options.
My engine light is on but the car drives fine — should I still get it checked?
Yes. A warning light means the car has detected a fault, even if it doesn’t feel any different yet. Some issues are minor, but others can worsen or affect fuel economy, emissions or safety if left. A quick diagnostic tells you whether it’s urgent or something to keep an eye on.
Do you diagnose European and prestige cars?
We do. European vehicles are a specialty at Memmotts, and we regularly diagnose makes such as Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar, Land Rover, Peugeot, Renault and Citroën, alongside all other makes and models.
Where can I get car diagnostics done in Brisbane?
We offer car diagnostics at both of our northside Brisbane workshops — Windsor (Unit 1, 14 Cox Road) and Grange (142 Days Road). Both are open Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm.
Will a diagnostic tell you exactly what’s wrong?
Fault codes point us to the affected system, but they don’t always name the exact faulty part. That’s why we don’t just read a code and start replacing parts — we investigate to confirm the true cause first, so you only pay to fix what’s genuinely wrong.
How do I book a car diagnostic?
You can book online through our booking page, or call the workshop that suits you — Windsor on (07) 3357 4955 or Grange on (07) 3172 5490.
