LPG Gas Conversions in Brisbane
LPG conversions Brisbane drivers can trust — Memmotts Automotive was the first workshop in Queensland to offer gas conversions, and we’ve been fitting them since the technology first became available. As a family-owned Brisbane mechanic since 1956, we convert all makes and models to run on LPG at our two northside workshops in Windsor and Grange. It’s a smart, cleaner-running way to cut your running costs, and Ray is always happy to talk you through whether it makes sense for your vehicle.
Service detailWhat’s included
An LPG gas conversion is a complete job, not just a bolt-on. When you bring your car to Memmotts we assess its suitability, source and fit a quality gas system, then tune and test it so it runs cleanly on the road. A typical conversion at our Brisbane workshops includes:
- An initial check of your vehicle to confirm it is a good candidate for an LPG conversion
- Supply and fitting of the LPG tank, along with all fuel lines, fittings and mounting hardware
- Installation of the vaporiser/converter, injectors or mixer, and the gas control electronics
- A dash-mounted switch so you can change between petrol and gas
- Tuning and calibration so the engine runs smoothly and efficiently on LPG
- Road testing and a safety check of the completed installation
Because gas conversions must meet Queensland requirements, we make sure the work is done properly and the system is fitted to a standard you can rely on. Come in and see us and we’ll walk you through exactly what your vehicle needs.
Why usWhy choose Memmotts for LPG gas conversions
Few workshops in Brisbane can match our history with gas. Memmotts Automotive was the very first automotive workshop to offer gas conversions in Queensland, and we have been specialising in them since the technology first became available. That’s decades of hands-on experience behind every conversion we do. As a family-owned business since 1956 — now run by second-generation owner Ray Memmott — we give honest advice about whether an LPG conversion is right for your car, rather than pushing a one-size-fits-all answer. We work on all makes and models, with a European specialty, from our two convenient northside workshops in Windsor and Grange. If you want LPG conversions Brisbane locals have relied on for generations, come in and talk to Ray.
What to watch forIs an LPG conversion right for you?
An LPG conversion tends to make the most sense if you drive a lot of kilometres, run a petrol vehicle with reasonable fuel use, and want to bring your running costs down against rising fuel prices. Because LPG can be bought at a cheaper rate per litre than petrol, the more you drive, the more a conversion can work in your favour. Gas-converted cars also run cleaner, so you are doing your part for the environment at the same time. Every vehicle is different, though — the best first step is a quick chat with Ray about your car, how you use it, and whether a conversion stacks up for your situation.

FAQsLPG Gas Conversions FAQs
Why should I convert my car to LPG?
With rising fuel costs, an LPG conversion is a smart way to reduce your running costs, because you can buy fuel at a cheaper rate per litre. Gas-converted cars also run cleaner, so you are doing your part for the environment. If you drive a lot of kilometres, the savings add up over time.
Does Memmotts have experience with gas conversions?
Yes. Memmotts Automotive was the first automotive workshop in Queensland to offer gas conversions, and we have been specialising in them since the technology first became available. We are a family-owned Brisbane business that has been trading since 1956.
Where can I get an LPG conversion in Brisbane?
We carry out LPG conversions at both of our northside Brisbane workshops — Windsor (Unit 1, 14 Cox Road) and Grange (142 Days Road). Both are open Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm. Choose whichever is more convenient for you when you book.
Can you convert any make of car?
We work on all makes and models, with a European specialty. Not every vehicle is an ideal candidate for LPG, though, so the best first step is to come in and talk to Ray, who can assess your car and advise whether a conversion makes good sense for your situation.
Can I still run my car on petrol after the conversion?
Yes. A conversion adds an LPG system alongside your existing petrol system, with a switch that lets you change between the two. Ray can talk you through how it works for your particular vehicle when you come in.
