4WD Servicing in Brisbane

A four-wheel drive works harder than an ordinary car, so it needs closer, more regular attention. Memmotts Automotive has provided 4WD servicing in Brisbane since 1956 — a family-owned workshop now in its second generation, servicing all makes and models with a European specialty. Whether your vehicle spends its life towing, hauling or heading off the bitumen, our trained technicians inspect and service it based on its age and use. Book in at our Windsor or Grange workshop on Brisbane’s northside.

Service detailWhat’s included in a 4WD service

Because a 4WD carries the extra hardware of a driveline that sends power to every wheel, our service goes beyond a standard car check. We tailor the work to how your vehicle is used — a tow rig, a daily runabout or a weekend tourer each ask different things of the driveline, suspension and fluids. A typical 4WD service at Memmotts covers:

  • Engine oil and transmission fluid checks and changes — inspected more often for vehicles driven off road
  • Transfer case and differential oil checked and replaced when low
  • Drive shaft, propeller shaft and rear axle inspected for wear and damage
  • Universal joints lubricated
  • Belts and hoses inspected and replaced at the first sign of fraying
  • Shock absorbers, mountings and bushes checked for wear and fluid leaks
  • Springs inspected for heavy-load use
  • Wheel alignment and balancing — done more frequently for off-road driving
  • Muffler and exhaust system checked for off-road wear
  • Electronic connections checked for security

Why usWhy choose Memmotts for 4WD servicing

Memmotts Automotive has been keeping Brisbane vehicles on the road since 1956. Founded by Robert Memmott and now run by second-generation owner Ray Memmott, we’re a genuine family-owned workshop — the kind that gives you honest advice rather than a list of jobs you don’t need. We service all makes and models, with a particular specialty in European vehicles, so your 4WD is in experienced hands whatever the badge. With two workshops on Brisbane’s northside, at Windsor and Grange, booking in is easy. As an RACQ Approved Inspection Station and RACQ member, we work to a standard you can trust when your four-wheel drive matters most.

What to watch forSigns your 4WD needs servicing

A 4WD needs more continual maintenance than a standard front-wheel-drive car, and hard use shows up early. Book a service if you notice clunks or vibration through the driveline, whining from the differentials or transfer case, oil weeping from a diff or shock, or a ride that has gone rough or wanders on the road. Fraying belts, a droning exhaust, or fluid that’s due after off-road or towing work are all worth catching before they become bigger repairs. If you’re heading bush or hooking up a heavy load, a pre-trip check gives you peace of mind.

FAQs4WD servicing FAQs

How often should I service my 4WD?

A 4WD generally needs more frequent maintenance than a standard front-wheel-drive car, especially if it’s driven off road, tows or hauls loads. Oil and transmission fluids in particular should be checked more often under those conditions. The right interval depends on your vehicle’s age and how you use it — tell us how you drive and we’ll advise a schedule to suit.

Do you service European 4WDs?

Yes. Memmotts services all makes and models and holds a particular specialty in European vehicles, so your European 4WD is well looked after here alongside every other brand we service.

What’s different about a 4WD service compared with a regular car?

A 4WD has extra driveline components — transfer case, front and rear differentials, drive and propeller shafts and universal joints — that a two-wheel-drive car doesn’t. We check and change transfer case and differential oil, inspect the shafts and axle for wear, and lubricate the universal joints, on top of the usual engine, suspension, brake and fluid checks.

Where are your workshops?

We have two workshops on Brisbane’s northside: Windsor, at Unit 1, 14 Cox Road, Windsor QLD 4030, and Grange, at 142 Days Road, Grange QLD 4051. Both are open Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm.

How do I book a 4WD service?

You can book online through our booking page, or call the workshop that suits you — Windsor on (07) 3357 4955 or Grange on (07) 3172 5490. Let us know how your 4WD is used so we can tailor the service to your vehicle.
